Pyramid File

Pyramid files contain multiple resolution data about a layer or project. Pyramid files can be in either MPT or MPU format. MPT format features support for the following imagery and elevation formats:

Imagery formats:

§  JPEG v3- For basic raster imagery that does not require transparency.

§  PNG-24 - For high-quality images.

§  PNG-Palette - For schematic maps using less than 256 colors.

Elevation formats:

§  JPEG v3- For standard resolution.

§  PNG-16 - For high resolution, best for LIDAR data.

§  PNG 16.8 - For very high resolution.

Inclusion of the source file within the pyramid file is optional. A pyramid file that includes the source is 1.3333 times larger than the original uncompressed source.

For a source file of a multi-resolution format (like MrSID), the default pyramid file created does not include the source. This is the recommended setting for such source files.

The following naming conventions are used to distinguish between the various MPT/MPU files that TerraBuilder creates:

SourceFileName.Ii.mpt/mpu

Image Map file, not including source

SourceFileName.In. mpt/mpu

Elevation Map file, including source

SourceFileName.Ei. mpt/mpu
